IRCTC Ticket Cancellation: How to get full refund on cancelling train ticket, know step by step process
Train is one of the cheapest and most accessible means of travel in India. Lakhs of passengers travel by it every day. But, many times trains also run late, especially in cold and fog season. This makes people upset. If the train is too late, then you can also cancel your ticket. Let us know how late you can cancel the ticket and how much refund you will get on cancelling the ticket.
For what reason can you cancel the ticket
If your train is running late by 3 hours or more due to any reason, then you can cancel your ticket. In this case you will get a full refund. This option should be implemented only when you do not intend to travel by that train and want to go by some other means. Or you have planned to cancel your journey.
Filing TDR is necessary to get refund
To get the full money of the ticket back, you have to file the deposit receipt process i.e. TDR. You can file it by visiting the IRCTC website. After this, you will get the full money of the ticket back. This process can take a maximum of 90 days. However, usually the refund is received very quickly. Sometimes within a week.
Step by step process to file TDR
- Go to the official website of Railways.
- Log in by entering ID-password.
- Select File Ticket Deposit Receipt in the Services tab.
- Go to My Transaction and click on File TDR.
- After this your request will be sent to the Railways.
- Then the refund will come to the bank account within the stipulated time.
You can also request for a refund by cancelling the ticket through the railway station ticket counter, railway call center and railway mobile app.
Tickets can also be cancelled due to these reasons
- The route or time of the train is changed.
- There is a mistake while booking the ticket.
- Railway officials have cancelled the train.
- Natural disaster or any other unforeseen reason.
- Due to government orders or instructions.
- Personal problem or emergency of the passenger.
Cancellation fee may also be charged in some cases
If the train is cancelled by the railway department, then you will get the full amount on refund. But, if you are cancelling the ticket for personal reasons, then you may have to pay some charge.
- 50% refund on cancellation 48 hours before.
- 25% refund on cancellation 24 hours before.
- 10% refund on cancellation 12 hours before.
- No refund on cancellation 4 hours before train departure.
